SCN has teamed up with Blackburn College on their HM Forces Training programme. Our two week Mobile Telecommunications Network Engineering course and our Data Communications courses are accredited as varying numbers of 'H' units towards an HNC/HND qualification via Blackburn College. The Data Communications Course also covers the syllabus of CompTIA Network +. As well as carrying 3 of these 'H' units the IT Network Technician course gives the delegate the hands on and theoretical skills to pass the industry recognised CompTIA A+ essentials and CCNA 640-802 on-line exams in their own time. Our Installation of Communications Equipment training programme carries City and Guilds qualifications as well as 1 'H' unit. Our IT Systems Administrator Course covers the syllabus Microsoft 200x/XP networking, Active Directory and Exchange 200x. Our Wireless Communications Program is a detailed overview of Wireless LAN and Wireless Broadband and Convergence with wireless and mobile technologies. Our PRINCE 2 Project Management course includes the PRINCE 2 Foundation and Practitioners exams. The ITIL Service Management course carries the ISEB Foundation and IT Service Management certification.

Mobile Telecomms Network Engineering is a 2 week in depth training course covering network architecture and transmission principles to mobile subscriber management. Frequent reference is made to currently implemented mobile networks like GSM, and also examines key concepts, techniques and protocols of GPRS and UMTS.

Our 2 week Data Communications training course will provide the delegate with a thorough understanding of the major aspects concerning Data networks. The first week covers the concepts of Local Area Networking and protocols with an in depth look at TCP/IP including IPv6. The second week would focus on Wide Area Network technologies, switching systems and signalling, with an in depth look at ATM. The delegates would be presented with key concepts, techniques and protocols of Data networks including Frame Relay, X.25, PDH, SDH, PSTN, ISDN and XDSL. This course also covers the syllabus of CompTIA Network +. Also included is a module covering essential elements of VoIP.

The IT Network Technician course is an intensive 2 week programme covering A+ and CCNA designed to equip the delegate with the necessary theoretical and hands on skills to carry out several IT roles. The first week covers PC assembly, troubleshooting operating systems, hardware, networking protocols and security. Week two covers Cisco networking skills and equips the student with the knowledge and ability to install and configure Cisco switches and routers in a live environment.

The IT Systems Administrator course is a 2-week programme designed to give students practical experience in the understanding and implementation of Microsoft based networks. The programme, through a blend of theory and practical sessions, provides delegates with experience of Microsoft Windows 200x/XP networking, including configuration and troubleshooting. It continues by introducing delegates to Microsoft Active Directory, and then examines Microsoft Exchange 200x, including administration, installation and configuration.

In addition to SCN's many courses which are heavily theory based, we also offer practical courses which are very much a hands on approach for those wanting to move into the installation arena. Our Installation of Communications Equipment training courses, will prepare individuals to install communications equipment in all types of environment, from small business systems to high capacity wide area networks. These courses cover topics which take the delegate through the whole installation process, from engineering standards and design, through site survey, to installation and quality audits. Programmed in a structured way to highlight the principles of installation, as well as the challenges of onsite installation, the courses are designed to benefit those with no prior industry knowledge as well as those looking to widen their experience.

The Wireless Communications Programme is a 1-week programme, providing delegates with a detailed overview of this fast growing networking and communications area. Through practical workshops as well as theory based sessions, delegates will develop their knowledge of wireless LAN including administration and security. In addition they will explore wireless broadband and the convergence of wireless and mobile technologies.

In the present competitive environment a properly implemented structured project management approach is necessary to organise, plan and control all business undertakings. Our PRINCE 2, Project Management course provides those responsible for planning and managing projects with a structure, which will help them without imposing too great an overhead, or stifling creativity. Senior managers needs are also addressed by providing the structure for a suitable decision support environment.

The ITIL Service Management course provides an excellent introduction to the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practice. It covers all of the IT support and delivery processes, and will enable course delegates to relate ITIL best practice to their own, or a clients organisation. This course also provides the opportunity to gain well-respected IT industry qualifications, the ISEB Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management, and the ISEB Certificate in IT Service Management.
